2017 hail reports across the United States was plotted using data from the National Weather Service. Counties were plotted using US Census Bureau Data. A density map was made using ArcMap tools. A density map of Texas hail reports was made with counties being labeled as well. The final maps plotted reports of significant severe (2″ or greater) and 4″ or greater hail reports in Texas in 2017. Some symbology was used to show the different sized hail reports.
Tornado Tracks Project
This project was particularly fascinating to me because I live in the county where the farthest south F5 tornado occurred. It was in Jarrell, Texas (Williamson County). This tornado killed 27 people and I have heard stories about this tornado during my whole life. The first map was a plot of all known F/EF Tornado tracks in the United States. The second map shows the variability in tornadoes across the United States using symbology for the percent of total. The third map is a heat map showing the highest density of tornado reports. The map shows that the highest density occurs in the Plains and the South. The final map shows all F5/EF5 tornado tracks.
